Coaches Corner- Reflecting back and looking ahead to Pontypool RFC!

After a good result at home to Bedlinog RFC our thoughts quickly changed to preparing for another tough encounter at home against Newbridge RFC, who in the previous week gained an impressive away win against Cardiff Met.

However the boys attitudes were good in training knowing although we did well in the Bedlinog game there was still a lot to improve on moving forward into the Newbridge game. Match day arrived and there were some unfortunate drop outs due to illness so some reshuffling was needed!

The game itself was dominated for large parts by ourselves in the first half, similarly compared with the Bedlinog game where again we had more composure and importantly played in the right areas, resulting in Newbridge being pressured! Furthermore our scrum was outstanding where it gave our exciting backs the foundations in which to dictate from. We played in the right areas and effectively game managed on the whole going into a half time lead, however knowing we left more out there on the scoreboard!

The second half started off in a similar way with us continuing to grow with confidence and gaining greater amount of possession that again tested Newbridges defence. Newbridge to their credit stayed in the fight right until the final whistle however it was us who scored at the death to seal another bonus point win! The final score was 40-21 bonus point win with Mozza scoring another try to add to his tally, the impressive Douche getting a meat pie and finally 2 penalty tries awarded for our ever impressive Scrum! Douche and Alex Patrick received the MOM awards with their non alcoholic vouchers!

Back to the on field, looking ahead to Saturday we are on our travels versus an impressive and undefeated Pontypool RFC team. We lost on both occasions last year however we put up a respectful fight for both fixtures! The challenge this week is simply continue with putting up a fight however to extend further with the aim for a much longer time! We know we're in for another battle however the boys have trained hard and are looking forward to the challenge!
